I don't shop at H&M. I detest the mall and avoid it at all costs. My kids got some awesome hoodies for Christmas from H&M that came with a gift receipt. The hoodies were awesome and we didn't need the gift receipt but I did notice on the back that H&M recycles used clothing and textiles. Cool right? I had no idea.
You can take used clothing and textiles in any condition to any H&M store. They recycle things that would otherwise go into a landfill and you get a voucher for 15% off of your entire next purchase.
So what can you drop off? Old dresses, T-shirts, socks, stockings, ripped tights, underwear, towels, and sheets. These items can be dropped off at any H&M or H&M subsidiary. The donated clothes and textiles then go to H&M's business partner, I:CO. I:CO breaks the items down into three groups. Rewear: items go to second-hand stores for a chance at new life. Reuse: items are turned into other products such as cleaning rags. Recycle: items are broken down and recycled into new textile fibers or products like insulation.
In 2017 H&M and subsidiaries recycled nearly 20 tons of textiles. That's equal to 89 million T-shirts. Nice job H&M!!!
