Cell Phone Recycling

Is your cellphone an embarrassingly old model that brings great shame upon your family?  Are your kids ashamed of your phone because it flips, or because it's screen is so small it might as well be a pager?  I'm kidding, kids have no idea what pagers even are.  If this sounds like your cell phone you probably know that it is worthless as a trade in.  Don't despair, I'm here to help you recycle it properly!

Why should you recycle your outdated piece of sh!t cellphone?  Cellphones contain valuable resources.  Cell phones contain gold, silver, palladium, copper, tin, zinc, and platinum.  Apple recycled 90 million pounds of electronic waste in 2015 alone.  That breaks down to 23 million pounds of steel, 13 million pounds of plastic, 12 million pounds of glass, 2.9 million pounds of copper, 6,612 pounds of silver, and   2,204 pounds of gold.  If it isn't obvious, it's really important to recycle your cellphone if it isn't worth anything for trade in.

Where should you recycle your outdated piece of sh!t cellphone?  Most carriers take back cellphones for recycling.  Sprint, Verizon, or whatever your carrier might be.  You should be able to drop it off at any Apple store for recycling and I believe they accept any brand.  You can drop it off at a collection bin that is at any Target store, or you can bring it to Batteries Plus Bulbs as long as you check to make sure that location accepts phones.

Well, there you have it.  Your old garbage phone is anything but garbage.  It's a valuable resource and should be treated as such, even if it is an embarrassing piece of sh!t.

Look for this bin at Target.
