Kids You Can Compost

I suppose you could compost kids but that would be a topic that I’m just not willing to cover on this already colorful blog.  Punctuation is important. Let’s start again.

Kids, you can compost!  Once you start making changes in your home and life, it’s fun to watch the things that your kids get excited about.  My son Frank (not his real name) has become pretty interested in the composting process. He is constantly asking my husband and I if things are recycling, compost, burn, or trash.  Frank delights in putting things into the compost tumbler and checking the decomposition progress. He enjoys peeing on the compost on some occasions because urine is excellent for the composting process.  Little boys get excited to pee on anything, am I right, or am I right? I knew that the concept of compost was fascinating to Frank but the day he brought home a book from the library about compost was when I realized how fascinated he was.

It’s one thing to make changes in your life to work towards sustainability but it’s another thing to watch your small children embrace it, and contemplate what it is instilling in another generation.  If you already compost, get your kids involved, and if you don’t already compost, consider giving it a try and watch your kids get excited about it. According to Frank, compost is pretty neat, and also fun to pee on.
