Dear Betty: Reader News 6/7/2019 Re-spun

Dear Betty,
My sister-in-law posted something on Instagram about Re-spun.  Re-spun is a company that takes your old tee shirts and recycles them into new ones.  I'm not sure if you've heard of it but I thought you'd like to know.
Thanks,
Macy

Dear Macy,
Thank you so much for sharing this with me!  I have not previously heard of Re-spun but I went ahead and checked it out.  Below is some information for readers about Re-spun.
Thanks for the heads up!
Betty

Here's the scoop.  Re-spun is a product that is made by Marine Layer.  Marine Layer is a clothing company that makes high-quality garments that are exceptionally soft.  They started making 100% recycled tee shirts that are super soft.  The recycling process is really cool, they don't use any water at all in the process and instead rely on UV sanitation technology.  They don't use any dyes as all but instead create the colors they use by combining hundreds of old tee shirts of the same color.  No new materials are used in the production of the final product.  All material comes from the recycled tee shirt fiber and recycled plastic fiber to create the final product.

As of current, Re-spun has collected over 70,000 tee shirts for recycling.  They will pay the shipping cost for you to mail them as many old tee shirts as you like.  Just sign up for the prepaid mailer on their website.  The mailer is recyclable by the way.  They will even pay you for your first 5 tees that you send them.  That's right, you can send them 5 worn out, stained tee shirt with holes and they will pay you 25 bucks.  You can give them as many tee shirts as you have and they will happily recycle them, just know that they only pay you for the first 5.  No, they don't give you cash, you are paid in credit which you can use to buy a Re-spun shirt and complete the loop.  How cool is that?  Why do their recycled shirts cost so much?  The process required is expensive but it is good for the earth.  Remember that you want to spend your money where it matters.  Check out their website for their prepaid tee shirt mailer or for a super cool Re-spun shirt here.
